Smears are prepared using the washed sediment from steps one through five.
Mix Mayer's Albumin well before use and place a small drop on a labelled slide. Keep in mind the albumin
will take up some of the color of the stain.

Using a wooden applicator stick apply a small amount of stool sediment to the slide and mix thoroughly.

With a rolling/smearing motion apply a thin layer of stool and albumin to the slide. The object is to obtain varying degrees of thick and thin areas along the length of the slide. Newsprint should just barely be read through the smear.

Let the smears dry for about 30 minutes or more depending on stool consistency. When the smears are dry they are ready for staining.
