Entamoeba polecki
- Considered nonpathogenic.
- Parasite of the hog and monkey.(2)
- The trophozoite closely resembles that of E. coli and E. histolytica. The presence of a mature
cysts is required for laboratory diagnosis of E. polecki.
- The trophozoite generally has a very frothy cytoplasm with a single nucleus and measures from 10 - 25 microns.
- The cyst measuring from 10 - 18 microns may contain inclusion bodies and abundant fragmented chromatoidal bars.
One nucleus is a characteristic of the species but two are possible.
