About the author,...
David received his diploma in Biological Sciences Technology in 1977 from Canadore College of Applied
Arts and Technology in North Bay, Ontario Canada. In 1978, after training with the Peterborough Public
Health Laboratory, he received his certification as a Medical Laboratory Technologist with specialization
in Clinical Microbiology.
Early on during his schooling, David developed an interest in microphotography, and Canadore College
gave him the opportunity to further explore this area of interest. Since his interest in photography
was sparked, a number of his works have been published in the Toronto Star and most recently his images of
Schistosoma haematobium eggs in seminal fluid appear on the
website of the Carlo Denegri Foundation featuring an atlas on human parasites. In 1995, after a long awaited acquisition of
photographic equipment, his interest in microphotography and parasitology continued to grow to the
point of sharing his works on his own website, http://www.practicalscience.com
In June 1987, David accepted a position with Gamma-Dynacare Medical Laboratories in Ottawa, Ontario
Canada and since 1988 has worked exclusively in the Parasitology discipline. I guess one can say
that David’s career has been rapidly developing since this time. In 1993 David received his
certification as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in Microbiology by the National Certification
Agency for Laboratory Personnel in the United States. In 1997 David continued to excel. In
February he was accepted as a member of the CMLTO Working Group to Develop Technical Benchmarks
for Parasitology -- the publication of these benchmarks soon followed in September of 1999.
In July of 1997, David hosted his first ‘in house’ seminar “Myiasis - A Case Study and Arthropod
Update.” Late in 1997 he became the recipient of the “Robert G. Armstrong Award” for his
involvement in the profession, the pursuit of knowledge and assistance to colleagues.
